Gyeongnam Province, along with Sacheon City, is starting the full-scale construction of an aerospace complex city

Gyeongnam Province is accelerating the construction of an aerospace complex city together with the Aerospace Administration, which was opened in Sacheon City last May.

At the third task force meeting held on the 30th, officials from Sacheon City, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), private experts, and the Aerospace Administration gathered to analyze the feasibility of major projects and discoverable businesses, discussing ways to materialize these plans.

Gyeongnam Province also plans to support the enactment of a special law for the construction of the aerospace complex city.

The special law proposed by National Assembly members Seo Chun-ho and Park Dae-chul (People Power Party) is expected to contribute to strengthening the legal foundation, as it includes the establishment of administrative organizations.

Sacheon City plans to initiate technical services for the designation of urban development project areas and the establishment of development plans by the end of this year.

Lee Moon-ho, a research fellow at the Gyeongnam Institute, presented the vision of “The Capital of Korea’s Aerospace Industry, a Future City Embracing Space,” setting goals for improving the residential environment, establishing a world-class aerospace industry hub, and creating an ecosystem for nurturing global talent.

Kim Young, an honorary professor at Gyeongsang National University, emphasized the need for establishing a comprehensive plan centered around Sacheon City and promoting phased urban development.

Gyeongnam Province intends to model the city after Toulouse, France, and Houston, USA, to create a complex city where aerospace research institutions, companies, and educational institutions are concentrated.

The task force is responsible for systematically preparing and reviewing plans for infrastructure construction, improvement of living conditions, and attracting institutions and companies to the aerospace complex city.

The meeting proposed specific measures to speed up the project, and Gyeongnam Province and Sacheon City plan to use this to revitalize the local economy and secure future growth engines.
