Maxar Technologies, a U.S. Earth observation information company, recently released the first images captured by two of its WorldView Legion Earth observation satellites, which were launched in May.
These satellites can capture images with a resolution of up to 30 cm from the ground, enabling more precise Earth observation.
According to Maxar Technologies, the two WorldView Legion satellites are currently in the trial phase for image calibration and system checks. Once this process is completed, they will begin full-scale operations.
The data collected by the WorldView Legion satellites can be used in various fields, including defense and intelligence, urban planning, disaster response, and more.
Maxar plans to build an Earth observation satellite constellation consisting of six WorldView Legion satellites in total, with the remaining four satellites scheduled to be launched by the end of 2024.
By providing detailed Earth observation data from various regions around the world, it is expected to contribute to various industries and research fields.
Meanwhile, Maxar is operating three WorldView satellites and one electro-optical imaging satellite, GeoEye-1, in addition to the WorldView Legion satellites.
These satellites are already playing a significant role in providing defense and commercial observation data, and the addition of the WorldView Legion satellites is expected to further enhance Maxar’s Earth observation capabilities.
A representative from Maxar Technologies stated, “We are very pleased to be able to provide more precise and diverse Earth observation data through the latest satellite technology,” and added, “We will continue to provide the best service to our global customers through innovative technology development.”
