Pohang International Fireworks Festival Evaluation Meeting Held… Achieves Economic Effect of 106.5 Billion KRW

Pohang City held a ‘2024 Pohang International Fireworks Festival Evaluation Meeting’ at the City Hall’s main conference room on the 12th, presided over by Deputy Mayor Jang Sang-gil, to discuss the achievements and development plans for this year’s festival.

The evaluation meeting was attended by over 60 representatives from various sectors, including the Pohang Cultural Foundation, sponsors, related organizations, volunteer groups, and general citizens. They watched highlight videos of the festival and received reports on evaluation services and comprehensive results. This was followed by a discussion on development plans.

This year’s Pohang International Fireworks Festival received positive feedback for enhancing its brand power by revamping its main content centered around ‘fire’ and ‘light,’ symbols of Pohang, gaining nationwide popularity.

Notably, the festival’s highlights included the country’s largest ‘Fireworks Drone Show’ and the unique ‘International Fireworks Competition,’ which drew significant attention.

Citizens expressed high satisfaction with the fresh festival experience, including selecting the Chinese team as the winning team through an app.

The festival, which ran for three days from May 31 to June 2, attracted approximately 330,000 visitors, achieving great success. The proportion of outside visitors was 49.4%, and the revisit rate was 67.3%, demonstrating the festival’s popularity.

Evaluation results reaffirmed that the Pohang International Fireworks Festival is a significant economic event for the city.

The festival generated direct economic effects of 18 billion KRW and indirect economic effects of 88.5 billion KRW, marking an increase of over 23% compared to the previous year, thereby invigorating the local economy.

Long-term development tasks discussed included traffic measures for large crowds, diversification of core light-related content, fixation of festival venues, and promotion of paid seating.

Deputy Mayor Jang Sang-gil stated, “We will actively incorporate the development plans presented through the evaluation meeting to develop the Pohang International Fireworks Festival into a globally renowned festival,” and added, “I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the successful and safe completion of the festival.”
