The Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police Corps (hereinafter referred to as “Gyeonggi-do Special Police”) has taken legal action against social welfare organizations and facilities that misused subsidies for purposes other than intended or arbitrarily used living allowances for disabled individuals. The total amount of illegally obtained funds revealed by this investigation amounts to approximately 150 million won.
From February to June of this year, the Gyeonggi-do Special Police conducted a focused investigation into illegal activities of social welfare organizations (facilities) based on reports and field inquiries. As a result, six out of nine related individuals were sent to the prosecution, and the remaining three will be sent after the completion of their investigations.
One of the detected cases involved Social Worker K from A Community Children’s Center in Uijeongbu. Despite actually working for another company, K falsified attendance records and fraudulently received 35 million won in wage subsidies. K’s spouse, Y, who is the operator of the center, is also accused of condoning this act.
In Bucheon, Director L of B Daycare Center falsely reported night overtime work and fraudulently received 4.79 million won in overtime pay.
Additionally, G from C Self-Sufficiency Center used false estimates to purchase low-cost goods and embezzled the difference, misusing 2.38 million won in subsidies for purposes other than intended.
Meanwhile, D was found operating an unregistered residential facility for the disabled, housing six disabled individuals in an illegal building. D is also accused of withdrawing and using the disabled individuals’ living allowances and disability benefits for personal use. Similar illegal activities were also detected in Yangpyeong-gun and Seongnam-si.
A representative of the Gyeonggi-do Special Police stated, “This investigation was made possible thanks to the active cooperation of related institutions such as Uijeongbu City,” and added, “We will continue to conduct investigations into illegal activities of social welfare organizations to protect vulnerable groups and support the operation of good-faith social welfare organizations.”
